Case Study #2

Diabetes in Nepal

We conducted a two-week focused diabetes management and prevention education programme for 30 healthcare students (16 female and 14 male) from Nepal, India, Kenya, Japan, and the United Kingdom. The students were recruited using social media channels and the programme were organised and conducted in a partnership with Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (especially Dr. Robin Man Karmacharya, Dr. Abha Shrestha, Pramesh Koju).

The module included a mix of asynchronous learning content and live conference sessions, conducted on the 9th and the 14th of April, 2023. The learning content was created in-house by the authors based on the preliminary screening results of the included studies in the systematic review and valuable inputs from Nepalese professionals.

・Dr Phanindra Prasad Baral (Section Chief NCD & Mental Health Section, ECDC Ministry of Health, Nepal): “Diabetes in Nepal”

・Dr Rajani Shakya (Registrar, Dhulikhel Hospital Kathmandu University Hospital): “Patient Lifestyle Intervention of Type 2 Diabetic Patients”

・Mrs Sarita (Nurse Educator, Dhulikhel Hospital): “Diabetes Nurse Educator”

The participants were grouped into 5 teams and matched with Nepalese facilitators to support the development of practical and sustainable solutions to target diabetes in Nepal. Each team summarised the issues and solutions identified within the 5P model via the production of a logic tree and subsequent action plan.
