Case Study #3
ACP in Japan
On the 27th of August and the 3rd of September in 2023, 30 students (12 from Japan, 18 from other 14 countries) gathered to develop a solution idea around the question ‘‘How can we promote discussions around advanced care planning (ACP) in Japan?’’
The live sessions for this case study included lectures and Q&A sessions by Japanese professionals, who provided an excellent opportunity to deepen our understanding of ACP in various settings in global contexts.
・Dr Eri Matsumoto (Matsumoto Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology clinic, Amakusa Central Hospital, King’s College London)
・Dr Kei Ouchi (Associate Physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine), Home Hospital Physician in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital)
・Prof Shinsuke Muto (Cardiologist, Clinical Professor at Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Visiting Professor at Fujita Health University)
・Prof Tomohiko Sugishita (Professor and Chair, Department of International Affairs and Tropical Medicine at Tokyo Women’s Medical University)
One of the team’s winning idea on how to raise awareness about ACP in Japan was implemented in practice with the help of our fellow Japanese members.
